The Superhero genre which dominated the past decade, has been the most mediocre and unimpressive one since past 3 years. As for Marvel, granted we do get a few decent surprises every now and then but overall its crumbling and is focusing too much on quantity than quality. With multitudes of projects lined up in the next 3 years, you can be damn well sure that most of them will be either bad or mediocre, just like Phase 4 and 2023 was. However, one production we all still believe in, is the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again. Not only was Daredevil the best production by Marvel, it was also one of the best superhero productions ever made. So, bringing it back with a similar tone and a good script might help Marvel TV a lot. Thanks to Marvel’s Echo, we now have an idea of where Daredevil: Born Again will be heading!

Echo Confirms Kingpin for Mayor in Daredevil: Born Again!

For all the promises it made, and for all the little hype around it, Echo settles on being yet another mediocre MCU project which is just as good as Iron Fist was when it comes to mature Marvel content. It is a classic case of losing track of what you’re supposed to do after a few days into production. Anyways, one thing about it that has got people talking is its post credit scene involving the future of Kingpin. So, considering that you are here, we believe that spoilers won’t bother you, however, if they do, then turn back now as MASSIVE SPOILERS for Echo follow below.

So, at the end of the series, Maya lets Kingpin go or Kingpin lets Maya go, or whatever, but in the mid credits, we see Kingpin in his private jet ordering his assistant to assemble all the “remaining heads” so he can “stabilize the situation“. Next we see him watching a news story where anchors are arguing about how the people of New York want “a fighter” “bare-knuckle brawler” as their mayor and question “Is that candidate even out there?“. Well, it quite clear from this that Kingpin will now be motivated to run for the Mayor of NYC which will put him in a conflict against Matt Murdock and friends in Daredevil: Born Again.

First things first, given Kingpin’s predominant use of fear to control his criminal empire, him getting shot by Maya would have had a negative impact on it. Fisk aims to re-establish stability within his organization and fortify its influence over the city upon his return, ensuring his grip on power remains unchallenged. For that purpose he asks his assistant to summon the remaining heads. Moving on, as for the him running for the Mayor, it is not directly shown but is highly suggested by the look on his face. This would bode well for the future of Marvel Spotlight TV shows as it sets up a major comics arc, which we’ll discuss next.

In Which Daredevil Comic Storyline Kingpin Becomes the Mayor?

Now that official introductions of Fisk and Daredevil to the MCU are over, it is time to for them to return to their long standing battle against each other. In comic book storyline of Daredevil #28 from 2017, penned by Charles Soule and illustrated by Ron Garney, Wilson Fisk, known as the Kingpin, orchestrates a surprising political maneuver. Seizing the position of mayor, Fisk leverages his charisma, public influence, and some manipulation to secure victory. His initial move involves outlawing all vigilante actions, a strategic move aimed at impeding local heroes like Daredevil, who pose a threat to Fisk’s ambitions. So having Fisk as Mayor could work well in favour for all Marvel Spotlight projects as it would put Fisk at the centre of each street level vigilante in MCU.

In the comics, Wilson Fisk has demonstrated the ability to mobilize the entire police force against Daredevil, providing a narrative avenue for other street-level Marvel heroes to become involved. Fisk’s legal pursuit of superheroes could serve as a catalyst for involvement of additional characters. Matt Murdock, facing these challenges, might call upon She-Hulk for legal assistance, adding another layer to the story. Fisk’s efforts to manipulate the legal system could also involve attempts to push the District Attorney to prosecute antiheroes like the Punisher, who has been confirmed to appear in Daredevil: Born Again.

We can also see Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage getting involved in all this as well. And let us not forget, that the most popular superhero vigilante aka Spider-Man also operates in New York. So, a spidey cameo won’t be that surprising considering how closely Spider-Man and Daredevil work in the comics and how Matt Murdock is already his lawyer in MCU. It does seem like Marvel will actually establish Wilson Fisk as the street level Thanos of MCU with Daredevil leading the charge against him.

All episodes of Echo are now available to stream on Disney Plus. Daredevil: Born Again is expected to arrive by 2025.
