Before Oppenheimer and Barbie set the box office on fire, there was only one film that was the perfect summer blockbuster: Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The film had an absolutely electrifying opening and it could not have had a better run. Many are also calling it the best movie of the year. The sequel ran for a month in theatres and it is one of the biggest summer releases. Spider-Verse broke one major record as it grossed $663.5 million at the worldwide box office, breaking the record for the highest-grossing film in Sony Pictures Animation history. The studio’s previous record holder, The Smurfs has a lifetime collection of $563 million. Given the outstanding success of the sequel, fans are really hyped for the threequel: Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Beyond the Spider-Verse was set to release just next year, however, it appears that just like most of the upcoming films Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be delayed.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse May Be Delayed!

Sony Pictures announced its updated theatrical release slate that has been impacted by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Out of everything, the most notable change was Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse losing its spot from the calendar, meaning that it will be delayed from its March 29, 2024 slot. A new release date was not revealed. I think only once the strikes come to a conclusion can Sony provide us with a new release date. The production on the threequel has not begun yet and it looks like it won’t start until  Fall 2024.

Spider-Verse 3 was initially set to break records for Sony Pictures with its March 29, 2024 release date, with its 301-day gap after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s release being the shortest between any two Marvel movies ever. The gap between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was 1641 days as Across the Spider-Verse suffered many delays.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing.

The sequel stars Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson and Issa Rae in prominent roles. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently playing in theatres near you.
