Extraction 2 is the sequel to the commercially successful Extraction that released on Netflix in 2020. The movie is directed by Sam Hargrave, the same who helmed the first one. While I don’t consider Extraction an action masterpiece but it was a good movie which had at least a semblance of character. Since Chris Hemsworth was the lead, it was clear that Extraction was going to be a successful venture for Netflix. Ergo, a sequel. The premise of the new film revolves around, After barely surviving his grievous wounds from his mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tyler Rake is back, and his team is ready to take on their next mission. Netflix just had a premiere for the sequel so we can now have their reactions of the sequel.

Extraction 2 Reviews Round-Up: Is Chris Hemsworth’s Sequel Worth It?

Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle) – “Contrary to what any dentist might tell you, you can’t have too many “Extractions.”” Original Score: 3/4

Tim Robey {Daily Telegraph (UK)} – “Hemsworth has landed on his Bourne, and this is his Supremacy.” Original Score: 4/5

Adam Graham (Detroit News) – “Now comes the sequel, which is even heavier on action mechanics and even thinner on character, as if that was even possible.” Original Score: C+

Kevin Maher {Times (UK)} – “By the end it’s hard to care. But that oner? Wow!” Original Score: 3/5

Nina Metz (Chicago Tribune) – “Less an original movie than an assemblage of ideas pulled from other movies.” Original Score: 2/4

Andy Klein (AV Club) – “These sequences are nonetheless truly impressive; you watch in amazement as the complicated fight choreography, involving dozens of stunt men and hundreds of gunshots and explosions, goes on and on.” Original Score: B

Mark Olsen (Los Angeles Times) – “Feeling inessential and disposable, a cog in a machine rather than something unique, Extraction 2 is a snapshot of a sequel in this moment, bigger, expanded and even less necessary.”

Todd McCarthy (Deadline Hollywood Daily) – “Even seasoned pros and cinephiles will gape and wonder how they pulled off any number of the shots and sequences here… This may not be a particularly good film, but you’ll definitely see things here in a way that you’ve never seen them before.”

Mark Kennedy (Associated Press) – “Chris Hemsworth returns as the sad-sack, gun-for-hire Rake in Extraction 2 and you’ll thank the giant streamer for such a nifty bit of resurrection because this franchise is pure cinematic adrenalin.” Original Score: 3/4

Kate Erbland (indieWire) – “When this thing moves — and, wow, does it ever — it offers one of the best examples yet of what Netflix bucks can buy.” Original Score: B

Courtney Howard (Variety) – “A new trail is blazed that recenters the series on bone-crunching brutality and bravado.”

Helen O’Hara (Empire Magazine) – “It’s an assault on the senses, especially the ears and the nerves, but it’s also a satisfyingly merciless action thriller that manages to build on the scale and ambition of the first. Roll on the inevitable threequel.” Original Score: 4/5

Danny Leigh (Financial Times) – “Made to cater to an appetite for scenes of bloody mayhem that look good on a big TV, the movie does nothing that doesn’t satisfy the job description.” Original Score: 3/5

Dais Johnston (Inverse) – “The sequel amps up the action, which makes the rest of the movie feel all the more pointless.”

Tomris Laffly (TheWrap) – “Chris Hemsworth’s approachable and brawny Rake gives puppy avenger John Wick a genuine run for his money when it comes to high-kicks and knockouts.”

Jordan Hoffman (TV Guide) – “There is no story, no stakes, and no humanity in Sam Hargrave’s sequel to his 2020 film. But as pure, brutal action, it is undeniably impressive.” Original Score: 6.0/10

Robert Daniels (New York Times) – “Burdened by its bluster, “Extraction 2” is merely a loud, blithering mess masquerading as fulfilling escapism.”

Frank Scheck (Hollywood Reporter) – “Suffice it to say that if you enjoyed Extraction, you’ll have a fine time with this one, which, in typical franchise fashion, busts its butt attempting to outdo its predecessor.”

Peter Bradshaw (Guardian) – “The first Extraction was entertaining enough but this new one is just cynically about extracting the cash.” Original Score: 1/5

Donald Clarke (Irish Times) – “It seems unlikely any protagonist of a summer release other than J Robert Oppenheimer will be responsible for so many deaths.” Original Score: 2/5

Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) – “At its deadliest, it’s a feat of breathtaking cinematic showmanship on par with recent standouts “The Villainess,” “Carter” and “John Wick 4″—even if its tale is as threadbare as its carnage is copious.”
