The Last of Us Series Release Date Teased By HBO, Plot, Cast and More!

The Last of Us is a game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is an action-adventure game where the player controls a smuggler – Joel who has been tasked with escorting Ellie, a teenage girl. The setting of the game is a post-apocalyptic United States of America and is supposed to be played from a third-person perspective. The Last of Us was huge success, to the point where there were quite a few sequels and spin-offs and those too were highly successful. Ad now, we’re also getting a remake of The Last of Us for the next gen console – PS5.

Considering the success of the game and the engaging story, HBO had announced a while back that they’re planning a live-action adaptation of the game. Now, HBO boss Casey Bloys, who is quite lenient with important announcements has given us vital information. Recently while talking to Hollywood Reporter he teased a release date for the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us.

The Last of Us Series Coming Out in 2023?

In the interview with Hollywood Reporter he was asked about an update on The Last of Us and a release window for the same and in his evergreen charming attitude, he revealed. “It’s closer to early 2023.” He further said, “By that time, we’ll have gone through Sex Lives of College Girls season two, White Lotus 2, The Idol, Last of Us, Succession, Julia, Hacks, Barry and Righteous Gemstones. It’s a pretty packed lineup again. We could be talking about any number of those shows!”

Another question he was asked was about was the recent merger of HBO with Warner Bros. and Discovery. Specifically their new Boss CEO David Zaslav. He expressed candidly,

“David has been nothing but supportive of what we’re doing creatively. He appreciates me and the team and makes it clear he values what we do. It’s been nothing but support. This happened when AT&T took over, a lot of business as usual decisions were recast in a, ‘Well, AT&T must be making them do this’ fashion. Whether it was Demimonde or a show cancellation or renewal, we’re running a programming service that has daily needs and decisions that need to get made. There’s no scenario where David is looking over my shoulder and weighing in on if we should renew or cancel something. Everyday decisions have been getting recast as reflective of what the new regime is doing and that’s not the case here.”

So, looks like we’re going to get the live-action adaptation of the game next year. Now, he did mention an early release date but seeing that it is simply six months away from release and no promotional material is out. So, let’s hope that we get it as soon as possible. How excited are you for the live-action series?
