Oppenheimer, no one can fully understand why this R-rated biographical drama was so successful. I mean it grossed close to a billion dollars, worldwide. That’s crazy. Apart from the Batman films, Oppenheimer has emerged has Christopher Nolan’s most successful outing ever. This is truly a remarkable feat. After its triumphant stint in theatres, the Christopher Nolan directorial is also the favorite amongst the major award events. Just this week, the film took home five Golden Globes awards for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Score and most importantly Best Picture. One can also expect the Cillian Murphy starrer to bring home all the major Oscars. However, if you’re someone who somehow missed this juggernaut in theatres then don’t worry you can now watch the film at home soon.

Oppenheimer Will Finally Be Available For Streaming!

After months and months of wait, we finally have an update on Oppenheimer’s streaming release date. Bloomberg reveals that the R-rated drama will make its streaming debut on Peacock in the month of February. There are no other details provided at the moment. This report is coming after Oppenheimer didn’t show up in Peacock’s January 2024 streaming releases list. Oppenheimer is one of the last major releases from 2023 to have not found a streaming home yet. Only a Christopher Nolan film can achieve this feat.

If this report is indeed true then Oppenheimer will have a theatre to streaming window of at least 195 days. This figure can also go up to 223 days if the film doesn’t release on Peacock until the last day of the month. The Christopher Nolan film breaks another record with this news – the longest delay between theatre to streaming for a Universal movie, beating out The Super Mario Bros. Movie by at least 75 days. Oppenheimer was released on digital and VOD platforms on November 21st, 2023 after 16 weeks (112 days) of exclusive theatrical run.

Indian viewers can expect the film to drop on the same day as the west, however, it won’t be on Peacock rather on Jio Cinema. As the platform is set to have a relaunch in India in February 2024 thanks to a new deal with Viacom18—a joint venture of Reliance Industries and Paramount Global—to launch Peacock in India as a content hub on JioCinema

The summer of 2023 was crazy. Barbie and Oppenheimer released at a time when summer 2023 ticket sales were down 7% from the same time in 2022 after films like The Flash and Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Part One underperformed at the box office. Since the beginning of “Barbenheimer,” the summer gross drastically improved, with the tally now standing $4.028 billion, the most since the summer of 2019, which hit $4.34 billion thanks, in part, to The Lion King and Spider-Man: Far From Home, which each eclipsed the billion-dollar mark globally. Both the blockbusters have triggered a spike in ticket sales by 16.6% helping Hollywood to go back to pre-pandemic levels for the first time in 4 years.

The story of Oppenheimer is adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer will be the first film to be shot in B/W and IMAX. The film is made on a hefty budget of $185 Million. The film basically has half of Hollywood in it including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck and Michael Angarano.

Oppenheimer is available for rent or purchase on digital and VOD platforms.
