Top Gun: Maverick Breaks Viewership Records On Paramount Plus!

Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun: Maverick is estimated to have a massive $180M WW opening and at least a $92M-$100M at the domestic front, which is one of the best debuts over the 4-day Memorial Day Weekend. This is the best opening debut in the career of Tom Cruise and the bookings were in full swing in U.S. But adjusted for inflation, the predecessor, Top Gun (1986), which came out nearly 36 years ago, still remains as the highest grossing film in Cruise’s career with $176M, adjusted for inflation.

The film had its world premiere at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022 and also recently screened at the Cannes film festival. It had received great critical acclaim and is considered as one of the best films of this decade. The film currently holds a 97% Fresh rating on the review site Rotten Tomatoes. Cruise and Val Kilmer reprise their roles from the first film. Top Gun: Maverick also stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Ed Harris, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm and Lews Pullman as part of the main cast.

Top Gun: Maverick Release Date & Plot

The film is set to release on May 27, 2022 and around 4,727 theaters were booked in U.S and Canada, making it the widest release ever and beating the previous location count of 2019’s The Lion King(4,725 theaters) and the recent Marvel outings, Spider-Man: No Way Home(4,336 theaters) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(4,534 theaters). Cruise’s biggest domestic opening is the 2005’s War of the Worlds, which opened at $64.8M on June 29 that year and had an extended weekend for July 4.
