Deborah Vance is officially back from the dead, or at least from the tabloid rumors of her demise, and she is ready to burn Las Vegas to the ground one last time. The fifth and final season of Hacks premieres today on HBO Max, and it is honestly the only reason to stay on your couch this week. After the chaotic season four finale, where our favorite diva retreated to Singapore and faced a massive death hoax, she is returning to the spotlight with more baggage than a Delta flight in Hacks Season 5.
Legacy is the New Late Night

The show picks up with Deborah at a literal and metaphorical crossroads. Last season saw her dreams of a late-night throne go up in smoke, and a vindictive studio boss slapped her with a non-compete clause that is basically the professional equivalent of a muzzle. This season focuses on her obsession with cementing her legacy before the world actually forgets her name. She and her long-suffering writer, Ava Daniels, are heading back to Vegas to pick up the pieces and prove that Deborah is still the funniest person in the room, even if that room is now significantly more hostile.
A Cast for the Ages

Jean Smart continues her streak of being the absolute G.O.A.T. as Deborah, and Hannah Einbinder is back as Ava to deliver the perfect amount of Millennial anxiety. The final season is also bringing in some serious heavy hitters to keep things spicy. Leslie Bibb, Cherry Jones, and Ann Dowd are joining the chaos, and we can only imagine the kind of professional hurdles they will throw in Deborah’s path. Expect to see familiar faces like Marcus, Jimmy, and the iconic Kayla back in the mix as they navigate the end of an era.
The Beginning of the End

Fans have been dreading the “final season” tag, but the creators insist they wanted to go out on a creative high rather than dragging things out until we all get bored. The 10-episode season starts with a two-episode premiere today, and new episodes will drop weekly until the series finale on May 28. It is being described as a bit sweeter than previous seasons, but don’t worry, the biting wit and brutal comedy are still very much alive.

If you like watching two women who fundamentally drive each other crazy, actually love each other in the most toxic and beautiful way possible, this is your Super Bowl. Hacks has managed to stay fresh and sharp for five years, and seeing Deborah Vance fight for her spot on the Mount Rushmore of comedy is the closure we all deserve.
