Doctor Strange 2 Superbowl Trailer Explained - Professor X, Nova, and What If

Oh My God! What an incredibly groundbreaking trailer that was! We all expected madness from this film, but had no idea there was going to e so much chaos. And yeah the movie definitely looks scary making it the first horror MCU flick. Just when you may have thought how Marvel would top the Infinity Saga, it comes out with this. I earlier called it the most exciting film in the MCU Phase 4 and hence have really high expectations from it. So far, it seems to deliver as well and here’s everything that happened in the trailer but first, if you haven’t yet watch it below.

In the words of Mordo, “the bill comes due, always”. So, it seems like the consequences for Doctor Strange’s actions in Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home have finally arrived. Its quite evident that multiverse has opened up and everything’s on the lose now, and trapped in between are Strange and Wanda. Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch is out to help Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange. Together along with America Chavez, they will try to stop the evil forces appearing from other universes. The comic archnemesis of Strange, Nightmare was also teased in the trailer and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo has also returned to action.

All the above-mentioned was expected from this film, but following are some hidden surprises that sparked fan theories and debates all over the internet.

Professor X, Nova, and What If

After years of speculations and fan demands, a live action crossover between Avengers and X-Men is finally happening. We heard many rumors about Professor X appearing in Doctor Strange 2 and this trailer confirms that. Strange is seen in bounds being taken to some futuristic place where we hear Sir Patrick Stewart’s voice as Professor X. You can see the frame I am talking about in the featured image. Obviously, this led to a blast on the internet with fans yelling “its finally happening!”

That aside, we also saw multiple references from Disney Plus MCU series What If. We saw alternate versions of both Strange and Wanda in the trailer including Evil Strange, zombie strange, Shuma-Gorath and what looked like zombie Wanda. Since, What If dealt with alternate realities and universes, it ties pretty neatly with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Finally, we also saw something/someone which looked like Human Torch aka Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four. It appeared like a figure on flames but if you look closely towards it’s hands, you’ll see blue cosmic energy. So, maybe it isn’t Human Torch after all and is probably an alternate version of Captain Marvel or Monica Rambeau. From the looks of it, my personal belief is that it might as well be the OP Marvel superhero Nova (Richard Rider). The character is wearing a helmet, gauntlets and blackish blue outfit while radiating cosmic energy. So, in my head it’s Nova and you are free to speculate more or prove me wrong in the comments section below. One thing is for sure, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is without any doubt, the most exciting and hype-worthy MCU Phase 4 film.
