Castlevania Nocturne - Top 10 Most Powerful Characters Ranked

Based in France, 1792 during the height of the French Revolution, Castlevania: Nocturne follows the exploits of Richter Belmont, the last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters. Just like Castlevania, this spin-off also features loads of vampires, monsters, sorcerers, hunters, and numerous other characters, as it ultimately these characters and their motivations which define any dark fantasy story. Also, being a supernatural action oriented series, it would have not even been half as good without certain characters being ridiculously over-powered. So, here’s a top 10 list of most powerful Castlevania: Nocturne characters ranked by skills, abilities, and experience. Beware that some major spoilers might follow below. Also check out our review here.

10. Maria Renard

Maria, though a formidable fighter, spends most of her time in the show being the damsel in distress. However, she serves as an integral part of the narrative and therefore cannot be ignored. That said, she did have some slick action sequences throughout the season, adding even more creativity to Castlevania’s arsenal. Also, we see her grow as a fighter throughout the series and during the finale battle, she didn’t just provide support but went toe to toe against Drolta. Being a range combatant she isn’t that good when it comes to close combat and often finds herself compromised and at the mercy of other fighters around her. But she has immense potential and can prove to be one of the most powerful characters in the upcoming seasons.

9. Conte de Vaublanc

Castlevania: Nocturne has loads of fearsome vampires and Conte de Vaublanc serves as a  terrific mini-boss for the season and the arch-nemesis for Annette. Although he doesn’t have many fight sequences in his limited screentime, he fights against Annette multiple times, nearly beating her before being brutally incinerated by Annette’s cross trap. Yet he proved to be a formidable opponent who haunted Annette for years making him worthy and powerful enough to crack into this list.

8. Annette

This is where the list starts getting real as Annette was the most powerful among our young leads before Richter went all Super-Belmont in episode 6. Being the descendant of Gods Ogun and Orunmila, she is also one of the strongest characters on the show overall with immense potential which is yet to be fully unlocked. From the ability to manipulate Earth, rocks, and metals, to her swordsmanship skills, she is a force to be reckoned with. She was also the only character among the leads who was powerful enough to be tasked with throwing the forge machine into the portal created by Tera. Although, she is no match for the final boss yet, she is one of the only few characters who can be in the future seasons.

7. Richter Belmont

Castlevania Nocturne Review - A Worthy Follow Up With Terrific Animation

You might have expected the protagonist of the show to rank much higher in the list, but as the list progresses, you’ll understand why he isn’t any higher. Even so, he is one of the most powerful characters on the show and one of the most powerful Belmonts in the video games. He is currently in his learning and growth phase and will surely get almost overpowered by the time series ends, just like Trevor did in Castlevania. After unlocking his magical potential in Episode 6 in a nearly Super Saiyan like transformation, he has already shown immense growth. In the final 3 episodes, he one shotted most night creatures and vampire minions, and also nearly beat Drolta. As the series progresses, so would his power and this list would look a lot different when the series ends.

6. Drolta

Drolta is not just terrifying and cunning, but also a powerhouse who proves to be quite a difficult opponent for our heroes. During the final battle, she single handedly goes up against Richter, Maria, and Tera, nearly killing Maria in the process. Also, in the final moments we see her about to land a killing blow on Richter before being stopped by Alucard. Drolta usually makes quick work of her opponents but when your opponent is the son of Dracula, there’s not much you can do.

5. Julia Belmont

With barely 6 minutes of screentime, Julia Belmont proved to be one of the most of powerful characters on show, nearly beating Olrox. She proved to be fearsome adversary who’s skilled in both range and close quarter combat. Wielding the iconic Belmont leather whip in one hand, and conjuring ice and fire spells from the other, she was proficient with both magic and weapons. If only kid Richter didn’t interfere, she might have even defeated Olrox. She killed loads of vampires during her prime and proved worthy of carrying the Belmont name. We wish to see more about her from flashbacks in the upcoming seasons.

4. Juste Belmont

Grandpa Juste Belmont is one of the most powerful and skilled characters in the Castlevania and his introductory bar brawl is nothing short of perfection. Even in his old age he makes quick work of his opponents and the way he handles the iconic whip showcases how he must have absolutely been legendary during his prime. That aside, he himself stated in the series that he was once the most powerful magic wielder in the Belmont clan. While we may never see him in his prime, it would be absolutely badass to see him battle it out in the upcoming seasons.

3. Olrox

Aside from being the most likeable, seductive, and the absolute best character of Castlevania: Nocturne, Olrox is also massively over-powered. Even Richard after his Super-Belmont transformation and all his friends combined were no match for him. He can levitate, appear/disappear into smoke, summon smoky face demons, and literally transform into a flying dragon. Aside from that, he is a skilled fighter who killed Julia Belmont and could have killed Richter thrice. He might even be as powerful as number 1 on this list but the full extent of his abilities is yet to be seen. Oh man, I personally am completely in love with Olrox!

2. Alucard

Alucard Tepes aka the anti-Dracula aka the son of Dracula came in during the final 2 minutes of Castlevania: Nocturne and completely stole the show. While rest of our heroes struggled against Drolta, Alucard one shot her and scared the rest of the vampires off by simply stating who he was. If being one of the most powerful characters in the Castlevania universe isn’t enough, this immortal half-vampire has killed thousands of vampires and has centuries of battle experience. As powerful as he was during Castlevania, he now has additional 300 years of experience and there is absolutely no doubt he’s the most powerful pale haired, pale skinned badass in the world of Castlevania. That said, we still don’t know how powerful he is compared to Olrox but it’s safe to say that they are at least evenly matched.

Honorable Mention – Tera

Tera is one of the most likeable and selfless characters in Castlevania: Nocturne but when it comes to power and fighting, she is a basically support combatant. But the kind of support she provides is not something you can take lightly. She is a sorceress who has shown mastery over the elements of ice and fire and her skills come in handy during group battles. That aside, with her ability to read the language of hell, she was able to create a portal to hell which was big enough to push the entire forge machine into. So, even though she didn’t manage to crack the top 10 list, it would be a shame to not mention her.

1. Erzsebet Bathory

While she isn’t remotely as complex or well written as Dracula, she is an absolutely terrifying opponent. We like to call her “The Untouchable” as she is so powerful that none of the characters in the series were able to even touch her, let alone fight her. Being dubbed as the “Messiah” and the “Devourer of Light”, she proved worthy of the immense build up in the first half of the season. From literally moving the Moon, to beating every character on the show without even lifting a finger, Erzsebet Bathory is the final boss we are never ready enough for. It is highly unlikely that even Alucard could beat her in a one on one combat and that makes her as big of a threat as Dracula was. Even bigger, we reckon, because Dracula wasn’t in his prime when he was beaten by the OG trio. What we’re trying to say is that Bathory is potentially as powerful as Dracula was at his very best. And THAT is vampire-shit crazy!
