James Cameron is one of the most visionary directors who have ever existed. He has always pushed the boundaries of cinema technologies first with The Terminator, then with Titanic and finally with Avatar (2007). Avatar took the world of CGI and 3D to new unprecedented heights and revolutionized cinema. Cameron wanted to make Avatar in the 90’s but the technology itself didn’t exist back then, so he settled with Titanic. Later on, with his help new tech was created for his dream film Avatar and same is the case with its sequels.
We haven’t seen or heard much from Cameron since Avatar. Last project he was involved in was Alita: Battle Angel where he was one of the main producers. As expected, the film once again boosted the level of CGI and motion capturing. Now the world is waiting for Avatar 2 and its sequels. As you may already know there are 4 planned sequels with Avatar 5 all set to release in 2028.
Avatar 2 Release Date
Avatar 2 was earlier slated for 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic leading to delays in all the sequels. But now things seem to be on track. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox President Steve Asbell was asked whether the film would release on time. He replied, “Yes. It will. For real. And it’s going to blow people away. You’re not ready for what Jim is doing.”
This is something that Asbell and rest of the crew members have repeatedly emphasized over the years – we are not ready. In all honesty, we are never ready for what James Cameron brings us as he always pushes the boundaries of cinema. There has been information that a lot of new technology, including underwater CGI stuff has been discovered to bring the sequels to life. Well, Mr. Cameron, we may not be ready for what you bring us but we are ready to be surprised. So bring it on!
Avatar 2 is all set to release on December 16, 2022 and the from looks of it, it will be on time.
