The Lion King Prequel Details Revealed By Director Barry Jenkins

The Lion King 2019 received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike due to its ultra realistic CGI which stripped characters off animation like emotions. While it had the same storyline as the animated 1994 version, it lacked a certain heart. Anyways, we all knew that a prequel for the 2019 Jon Favreau film was under works and that Barry Jenkins was directing this one. But what we have today is the first major update on the film.

The Lion King 2/Prequel Is In Full Force

Good news is that this prequel to 2019’s remake will be focused on a young Mufasa and his brother Scar. It would provide some fresh content around some of the favorite characters of the film. The film will offer a deep look into how the two brothers end up scornful adversaries and what leads Scar to plot Mufasa’s death. Jenkins earlier stated that he was completely blown away by how good the script was when he read it.

Now we have some new insights as in an interview via Variety, Jenkins teased some new storyline details regarding it. Here’s what he had to say:

I grew up with these characters; they mean so much to me. I think the work that Jeff Nathanson, the writer, did and going back into really helping children, and anyone who ever loved this property understands what it takes. Kings aren’t just born; they aren’t just made. They have to become who they are through a series of events that a lot of people can relate to. So, I think from that standpoint; it fits very well with everything else I’ve done. So, I feel no pressure; I just want to do a good job.

To bring something new in a story which is close to many fans’ heart, is certainly a big challenge. But it seems like Jenkins is up to the challenge and we might actually experience something new and wonderful.
