SOULM8TE (stylized in all caps and pronounced “Soulmate”) is an upcoming American science fiction erotic thriller directed by Kate Dolan and set in the expanding M3GAN universe. Serving as a spin-off to M3GAN and the third installment in the franchise, the film stars Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, and Claudia Doumit. The story follows a grieving man who purchases an advanced android companion to cope with the death of his wife, only for the relationship to spiral into increasingly dangerous territory. If you’re wondering when the film will release and what makes this M3GAN spin-off different, here’s everything we know so far.
SOULM8TE Digital Release Date
Unlike M3GAN and M3GAN 2.0, SOULM8TE will not receive a theatrical release. Universal Pictures has officially confirmed that the film will debut directly on digital platforms on August 1, 2026. The release strategy was announced alongside the film’s first trailer on July 8, 2026, when Universal revealed that the project had shifted from a planned theatrical rollout to a straight-to-digital release. The film will be available through major digital retailers including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google TV, and Fandango at Home.
More About SOULM8TE

One of the most interesting aspects of SOULM8TE is how dramatically it differs from the main M3GAN films. While the original franchise entries blended horror with dark humor and satire, this spin-off is being positioned as a more mature science fiction erotic thriller that explores themes of grief, loneliness, desire, and artificial intelligence. The screenplay was written by Rafael Jordan and Kate Dolan from a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Jordan. Wan and Jason Blum are producing under the Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster banners.
The supporting cast includes Oliver Cooper, Steve Chusak, Emma Ramos, and Ossian Perret. Behind the camera, cinematography is handled by Narayan Van Maele, editing by John Cutler, and the score is composed by Anthony Willis. The film has a runtime of 99 minutes and principal photography was completed in 2024. The first trailer suggests a tone closer to films such as Ex Machina and Companion than the franchise’s previous entries, focusing less on campy horror and more on obsession and emotional manipulation.
With Blumhouse and Atomic Monster once again backing the project, and James Wan involved in developing the story, SOULM8TE could offer a very different kind of AI horror experience when it premieres digitally on August 1, 2026.
