The Witcher Blood Origin Reduced to 4 Episodes, Adds More Jaskier

The Witcher: Blood Origin is an upcoming period horror-fantasy series based in the world of Witcher. It is basically a prequel series that takes place thousands of years before the events of The Witcher and The Nightmare of the Wolf. In the rapidly expanding cinematic world of Witcher, this upcoming mini series will serve as a great appetizer before The Witcher Season 3. News is that we have a cool update about it and one worrisome update as well.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Episode Count, Jaskier, and Release Dates

According to sources, The Witcher: Blood Origin has been reduced to a meagre 4 episodes from 6. So, its too short now even for a mini series and this is because of all the reshoots and cuts Netflix had to make. This has gotten fans worried as it means the quality of the series might not be good and even Netflix themselves seemed underwhelmed by it. So, after these cuts and reshoots, could these 4 episodes really be worth it? The bigger question is that was Blood Origin even required right now?  The Witcher main series did well no doubt and its anime film Nightmare of the Wolf was also critically acclaimed but warranting a whole new spin-off series was always a risky move.

With just 2 seasons, the main series is also struggling to expand its fandom and is taking a hell lot of time to make. So, the hype around The Witcher: Blood Origin is almost nil and it is as if, not even the Witcher fandom cares about it. So yeah, there are high chances this mini-series will bomb and the scenario behind the scenes doesn’t look very promising. As for which episodes have been cut, it is possible that parts of each of the six episodes have been cut with the premiere and finale being the least affected.

Now moving to the good news, Jaskier aka Dandelion played by Joey Batey was brought back for reshoots. So, we’ll be getting more of our favorite quirky yet talented bard Jaskier. As you may know, Jaskier was going to appear in at least one present-day prologue, telling the story of Blood Origin to his crowd. He was then slated to be interrupted by an elf who would refute Jaskier’s colorful and incorrect version of events and proceed to tell the real story. Now, it seems like we’ll be getting more on-screen time for Jaskier and that surely is a great news.

Do let us know your thoughts in the comments below on how well or poorly do you think the series will perform. One thing is for sure, though, that the music of the series is going to be incredible as none other than the legendary composer Bear McCreary (God of War), is helming it. The Witcher: Blood Origin is all set to debut sometime near Christmas this year. Also, if you are having doubts about watching it, check out a few reasons why you must here!
