Andor Episode 4 Review - Not the Best But Certainly Not Bad

You know a quality show when you see one and the new Star Wars spin-off, Andor is surely one of them. After largely disappointing The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor has breathed a fresh air into the Star Wars Universe. Andor  Even though he was one of the largely forgotten Star Wars characters, Diego Luna’s portrayal of Cassian Andor in Rogue One was one of the film’s strongest aspects. And while the outcome of Andor’s story is known, much of his past is still a mystery and so, this live-action prequel series centers around the rebel’s dark and sinister past. Star Wars just released Andor Episode 4 and without any further ado, here’s what we think about this surprisingly good show!

Andor Episode 4 – A Slow Burn But With A Lot of Buildup

Just like Episode 1 and 2, this new episode is setting up the next arc and that’s why judging it individually is a little hard. Andor Episode 4 isn’t as great as its predecessor and not much happens in it but that doesn’t mean it is bad. In fact, it is pretty good especially production quality wise. The cinematography and locations of this episode are bonkers and some of the best I’ve seen since The Mandalorian. And once again, its biggest strength is its sense of urgency fueled by the powerful score and sound design.

So, the show checks all the top tier boxes from the technical point of view. Now let’s arrive at performances, which are just phenomenal with special praise to Stellan Skargard. He’s always a pleasure to watch and he reminds us why in this series. Diego Luna, unfortunately, didn’t have noticeable performance worthy moments this episode, but being the lead character, he’ll have a lot of them throughout the series. Faye Marsay, most well known for portraying The Waif on GOT, delivered a passionate performance and her character Vel Sartha is indeed quite likeable.

Moving on, viewers are still quite intrigued about Syril and he indeed is a complicated and fascinating character. We have no idea what’s going on his head but it seems like he is going to play a very important role here. He is also being humanized a lot by the show and in this episode, we also got introduced to his mother. It would be really good to see how his past and present unfolds later in the series. We also got a little deeper look into Luthen’s character and a bit of his personal life which was also great.

But the highlight of the episode remains Andor meeting him team of rebels and trying to fit in as he’s the only one there fighting for a handsome fees rather than the cause. Due to this Vel and Andor’s dynamics also seem intriguing as as of now they do not trust each other. The rebels also introduced us to their plan which they need to execute in 3 days which might be take place around episode 6. That aside, we also were also saw the return of Mon Mothma who is having secret conferences with Luthen. Fans were delighted to see her and as you may know, she also will play a major role in what’s to come and can we all agree we dislike her husband? Anyways, all that said, this episode did suffer from a sluggish pace and uneventfulness, however, much like Episode 1 and 2, it is surely building up to something jaw-dropping.

Final Verdict – Andor Episode 4 is another slow burn which sets up something amazing but its ultimate usefulness will be determined by what happens next. As a solo episode it had remarkable visuals and audio, it introduced us to major players, and it looks like a part of a bigger vision. Given the production quality of the show, be rest assured that the conclusion of the events it set up, would be incredible!

The first four episodes of Star War: Andor are now airing on Disney Plus and we’ll see you next week when we bring you our Episode 4 verdict.
