God of War Ragnarok Review Roundup - Superb Story, Boring Combats

The overwhelmingly good reviews of the 2018 God of War reboot rejuvenated the craze of the game and despite being a hefty and daunting adventure, it left the fans wanting more. Sony was quick to capitalize on this and they announced a follow-up to the reboot – God of War: Ragnarok. Although, ever since this announcement it has been a slow burn for fans as there seemed to be no significant updates on the game’s release. However, the fury rising inside fans was sublimated after Play Station finally announced the release date of the game and along with it, a new trailer last month. Now as the release date of the game is inching closer, we’re getting a lot of leaks but today is not a day for leaks rather it is the day where we find out if the 4 year waiting has paid off or not. Today is when the embargo for God of War: Ragnarok lifts and we have a lot of reviews about the game. Let’s see how it is.

God of War: Ragnarok Will Blow Your Mind?

God of War Ragnarok Fenrir Kratos and Atreus

The reviews of the game have been positive and critics are already calling it a masterpiece in gaming. The visuals, story and everything is superb but one thing that I’ve heard is that there is no change in combat and that disappointed many as there is no innovation in that department. Otherwise the game is phenomenal and it is definitely been talked up as the game of the year.

IGN
“Ragnarok is incredibly well polished, with little details from the etchings on a dagger to the clunk of a cupboard door closing shown love. It’s expertly animated, with saliva-sputtering grimaces launching towards the lens during the heat of battle, and hair flowing realistically on Kratos’ less-follically challenged enemies.”

Original Score: 10/10

Gamesradar+
Leon Hurley
“For the most part this is exceptional”
Original Score: 4.5/5

Gamespot
Tamoor Hussain
“God of War Ragnarok’s most impressive achievements are its exploration of loss and love; grief and growth; determinism and defiance. It’s an astoundingly well-written game that deconstructs the mythology of Norse gods and rebuilds it as an odyssey about families.”
Original Score: 9/10

Kotaku
Zack Zwiezen
“Sony’s latest epic adventure never loses focus on Kratos, Atreus, and their changing relationship.”

Polygon
Alexis Ong
“God of War Ragnarök feels trapped between great design and blockbuster movies”

Variety
Katcy Stephan
“God of War Ragnarök’ Is a Tender Triumph of Epic Proportions”

Rolling Stone
Christopher Cruz
“An Emotional Odyssey Through Fatherhood”

The Guardian
Keza Macdonald
“Walk among gods in a mythological epic”
Original Score: 4/5

Gamerant
Joshua Duckworth
“God of War Ragnarok lives up to the hype and expectations of the franchise but also manages to subvert and exceed them in many ways.”
Original Score: 5/5
