Aquaman 2 director finally addresses the Amber Heard role controversy. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is DCEU’s last movie and the film has met with some controversies. Reportedly, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa allegedly showed up drunk on the set. The leading man would then go on to taunt Heard, with the notes from the trial (Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial). Momoa allegedly dressed up as Depp and tried to get her fired from the film. According to the notes from her December 27, 2021 therapy session, director James Wan allegedly raised his voice at Heard. He also didn’t allow other actors to take photos with her. A DC spokesperson denied the statements about Momoa and Wan’s behavior saying it’s false.

Aquaman 2 Director Addresses Amber Heard Controversy

Speaking with Empire Magazine, director James Wan defended his choice to have Mera play a smaller role in the sequel than she did in the original Aquaman. Wan wanted to create “an outright buddy comedy” between Arthur Curry and Orm. “It’s fair that [Heard] said that [about the character being pared down] because she wasn’t in my head as I was working on this movie. Actors don’t necessarily know what we [directors] behind the scenes are thinking about. But this was always my plan. From the start, I pitched that the first film would be a ‘Romancing The Stone ‘-type thing — an action-adventure romantic comedy — while the second would be an outright buddy comedy. I wanted to do ‘Tango & Cash!'”

Reportedly, the Mera actress was almost fired and after the release. Wan didn’t want to cast her for the sequel because of a lack of chemistry between her and Momoa. Heard’s then-boyfriend Elon Musk reached out through a “scorched earth” letter to the studio and get the actress reinstated. Now, two of her scenes have been reportedly cut from the sequel – a fight sequence with Black Manta and a love scene with Arthur Curry.
