The Witcher Season 3 Politics and Ending Explained Liam Hemsworth

Ever since The Witcher Season 2 ended, things haven’t been going Netflix’ way. Firstly, there was a huge backlash when fans came to know writers didn’t respect the source material. Then there was the whole Henry Cavill exit debacle which literally broke the faith and interest of most of the fans. What little bit hype remained was shattered by the extremely disappointing and poor The Witcher: Blood Origin. With the a highly negative atmosphere around the franchise, hopes weren’t high for this season but against all odds, Season 3 has managed to impress fans and critics alike. You can check out our review for Season 3 Vol 1 here and read on for our thoughts about Vol 2 below.

Season 3 Ending and Politics Explained

HOC Rating for Season 3 – ★★★1/2

Verdict for Season 3 – While The Witcher Season 3 is one hell of an improvement from Blood Origin, it is neither as accurate and intriguing as season 1, nor as action packed and high budget as season 2. Caught between the source material and creative diversions, it restricts itself from being what it could have been with a better vision and more investment.

So, after following the source much better than the previous season, The Witcher Season 3 Vol 2 Episode 6 once again derailed from the path and ended up ruining a few fan favorite characters. These included Rience (who was killed off here but continued to be a major antagonist till the penultimate book), Cahir (whose was still struggling with his loyalties at this point), as well as everything that happened with Stregabor, Francesca Findabair and most of the sorcerers. The series got back on track with Episode 7 which was probably the most accurately adapted episode of the series so far. The finale also worked pretty well, but the final Henry Cavill Geralt sendoff makes it a little difficult to transit to Liam Hemsworth.

Geralt was supposed to be gravely injured and that could have acted as the perfect transition point, instead Netflix gave Cavill a heroic sendoff where he fought off an entire army while still recovering from injury. Although, it was a kickass sequence which made fans quite happy, it makes the transition to Liam even more heartbreaking and difficult. Anyways, getting back to where everyone stands, let us begin with all the politics. So, firstly, the Nilfgaard, Vilgefortz, and the Scoia’tael failed in their pursuit and hence have presented a fake Ciri in front of the masses. After all the deaths they suffered, the Mages failed to get a hold of Ciri as well, and so did the kingdom of Redania and every other kingdom.

Redania is the most important kingdom and hence we’ll let you know all about where it stands. In the finale we saw Phillipa plot the assassination of King Vizimir much to the surprise of Djikstra. On his successful assassination, they have placed Prince Radovid on the throne against his wishes of leaving everything and staying with Jaskier. All you need to know about the other Northern Kingdoms is that they too want to get a hold of Ciri, but their mages and spies have failed them as well. As for Francesca and her Scoia’tael, they have been granted pass by Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard under the condition that all the fighting elves and dwarves will continue to fight under Nilfgaard. The war is now on between Nilfgaard and the northern kingdoms and this pretty much sums the politics of Witcher Season 3.

Moving on to our main characters, Ciri has joined an infamous group of thieves called The Rats by her new name “Falka”. Yeneffer with the help of Triss and the others is trying to find Ciri but has suffered the loss of Tissia who decided to commit suicide after Vilgefortz’ betrayal. Geralt believes that fake Ciri is the real Ciri and hence, is on a quest to retrieve her, accompanied by Dandelion/Jaskier, and the archer Milva, who is a stark fan favorite from the books. The main antagonist, Vilgefortz was seen standing alongside Emperor Emhyr, although in the books, he disappeared after the Battle. So, that is pretty much it from all that happened in the season. Now moving on to the future!

The Witcher – Geralt’s Company or Hanza Explained

Milva’s introducion in season 3 has paved the way for Geralt’s Company or Hanza. Geralt’s Company was formed in the main saga’s third book “Baptism of Fire” with the motive of rescuing Ciri after the events of attempted coup at Isle of Thanedd in “The Time of Contempt”. The major members of Geralt’s Company were Geralt, Dandelion (Jaskier), Milva, Cahir, Regis, and Angouleme. While the dwarf Zoltan Chivay and his gang also accompanied Geralt for some time, he was never a part of his company. Now, you know Dandelion and you know Cahir from the the previous seasons so there is not much to add there. Yes, Cahir is now going to join Geralt in his quest and be a major part of his company, even though Geralt hates him.

To know more about Milva, Regis and Angouleme, make sure to read this article. Regis as may of you might know, is the most beloved character of the franchise and miscasting him might be the final nail in the coffin for Netflix’s The Witcher. So, everyone is pretty excited to see Regis and as per Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher Season 4 is looking at big names to cast Regis and so they should. Before Regis though, the biggest obstacle Netflix has to face is to make the audience accept Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. Though, I particularly did not find anything about Cavill’s Geralt exceptional, fans rioted when he exited. So, Netflix have to make sure that Liam doesn’t just look the part but also brings forward the very best of Geralt we’ve seen so far.

Honestly, Liam’s physique is much more suited for Geralt as he was never meant to be as bulky as Cavill was, but they do have to do something about that soft and charming face of Liam. He could make up for a pretty good Geralt but at this point fans have lost all faith in the project. This leaves us with just more one thing to discuss which is The Rats. The group consists of 6 main members Asse, Iskra, Kayleigh, Mistle, Reef and their leader Giselher. We’ve already seen them all in the finale and they are going to be a major part of Ciri (now Falka)’s journey from this point on. Basically, they are a group of thieves but well trained at that as they make up for formidable opponents in battle. They loot and plunder and so are wanted by any or all authorities in the continent. A spin-off show about them is also under development, but it may never see the light of day under present conditions.

That is all for today! Complete The Witcher Season 3 is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Season 4 will begin production in 2024 once the writers and SAG-AFTRA strike ends.
