Andor Episode 9 Prison Escape

You know a quality show when you see one and the new Star Wars spin-off, Andor is surely one of them. After largely disappointing The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor has breathed a fresh air into the Star Wars Universe. Andor  Even though he was one of the largely forgotten Star Wars characters, Diego Luna’s portrayal of Cassian Andor in Rogue One was one of the film’s strongest aspects. And while the outcome of Andor’s story is known, much of his past is still a mystery and so, this live-action prequel series centers around the rebel’s dark and sinister past. Star Wars just released Andor Episode 9 and without any further ado, here’s what we think about this surprisingly good show! (Check out the all new Andor Pop action figure here!)

Andor Episode 9 Review

If you analyze and think about it, then nothing actually happens in this episode which couldn’t have been wrapped up in the last one. So, for me Episode 8 and 9 were pretty much interchangeable, both depicting how evil Empire is and how Dedra Meero is closing in on Andor. But unlike Episode 8, Andor Episode 9 did a way better job setting up what’s to come. So, now that Meero has tortured Bix, she knows much more about Andor than she did in the last episode and has even connected him to Aldhani events.

Talking about Bix, the poor girl suffered a unique type of torture which was really creative on the writers’ part but equally horrifying for Bix. So, now fans are waiting for Cinta to finally rescue Bix and if that happens, it would be really interesting to see how. One cool revelation in this episode was that Vel and Mon Mothma are actually cousins as we see Vel visiting Mon and reminiscing the old days. Mon apparently, is on the brink of getting caught as there is a huge discrepancy in her financial figures owing to her contribution towards to rebellion. That’s pretty much all that happens in the episode aside from the Andor prison plot, which we will now talk about.

As cliche as this Andor prison plot is, it has managed to grip the viewers and we know exactly how. The credit goes to the extraordinary and committed performances by the cast as well as the rousing score of the series. Honestly, Andor is the most well performed Star Wars show ever as even minor cast members deliver memorable performances. For example, the medic who came to treat Ulaf delivered his lines in such a compelling way, that the audiences were completely sold on the plot. And obviously, Diego Luna and Andy Serkis need no introduction for their acting prowess. These guys can sell even the crappiest of scripts, let alone the exceptionally well written Andor.

Anyways, we saw Andy Serkis’ Keno Loy trying to ignore the rumors and stopping Andor for planning, the entire episode. But in the final few moments, after talking to the medic, Loy was convinced and we could actually feel the fear and desperation on his face. So finally, he too is in on Andor’s plan and in the next episode we might see a prison escape plot! So, that could be really incredible considering that this time we have had one extra episode of set up. So far Episode 3 and Episode 6 have been the highlight of the series and we expect episode 10 to join them.

Final Verdict – Andor Episode 9 was successful episode set up wise but it does make you question if Episode 8 was at all necessary? Or if Episode 8 and 9 should have been clubbed together? Anyways, the owing to some terrific performances, pulsating score, mesmerizing visuals and futuristic concepts, it manages to be engaging and acts as a worthy prelude to what’s to come.

The first ten episodes of Star War: Andor are now airing on Disney Plus and we’ll see you next week when we bring you our Episode 10 verdict.
