Nautilus via Deadline

Yet another show has been dropped by Disney+ because of cost-cutting reasons. Nautilus, commissioned by Disney two years ago at the Edinburgh Film Festival, is a UK live-action adaptation of Captain Nemo’s story. This move is a part of Disney’s plan to remove content from streaming platforms for which it intends to take nearly 2 billion dollars as impairment charges. Disney had previously announced that they would be removing nearly 3 billion dollars worth of non-sports content across streaming platforms.

Nautilus – What Is The Disney Plus Show About?

Shazad Latif

Created by James Dormer, Nautilus can be considered an “adventure drama” that will feature 10 episodes. Deadline reports, “In this retelling, Nemo (Shazad Latif) is an Indian Prince robbed of his birth right and family, a prisoner of the East India Company and a man bent on revenge against the forces which have taken everything from him. But once he sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, he not only battles with his enemy, he also discovers a magical underwater world.” Nautilus has completed filming and has been produced by Moonriver Studios and Seven Stories. The show is based on the iconic character created by Jules Verne for his book, 20000 Leagues Under The Sea.

Nautilus, like The Spiderwick Chronicles, whose plug Disney also pulled as of late — will be shopped to other studios. Nautilus, it seems will have to look another harbour for itself, so that it sees the light of the day. Disney has been mirroring Warner Bros as of late, and its moves have been questioned by viewers considering highly-stationed executives have no reductions of multi-million dollar bonuses for themselves from what we know.
