House of the Dragon Episode 1 Leaks - Spoilers and Plot Summary

House of the Dragon, the upcoming prequel to Game of Thrones, has revealed numerous fresh details, including several new images of its central characters. The latest pictures from the prequel series are included in Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive peek at HBO’s House of the Dragon, the first show to follow the Emmy-winning Game of Thrones.

The events of the Dance of the Dragons are dramatized in the HBO series, which is set hundreds of years before the time of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The show will follow the Great Council of Harrenhal, which laid the foundations for this confrontation decades earlier.

Leads Will Fight The Male-Dominated World In House of the Dragon

In a recent interview with EW, Emma D’Arcy and other prominent cast members discussed their roles. Ryan Condal, a co-showrunner, calls D’Arcy’s portrayal of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen “most important role in the show, in many ways.” The primary focus of House of the Dragon is Rhaenyra and her best friend Alicent, played by Olivia Cooke.

Even though D’Arcy and Cooke star as the show’s leads, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, respectively, Milly Alcock and Emily Carey will first portray the characters in the show as teenagers before the adult stars take over.

Rhaenyra is a character that D’Arcy says is “pushing at the edges of womanhood.” She is a princess who takes on roles more often associated with male heirs in Martin’s fictional world, such as cupbearing for her father and riding dragons. They add that she is “obsessed with masculinity” and struggles with her status as a potential heir to the kingdom.

House of the Dragon is not just attempting to improve things for the women. In an effort to counter the “overwhelming whiteness of Westeros” up to this point, House of the Dragon recasts the Velaryon dynasty as “wealthy Black rulers marked by flowing silver dreads.”

Condal stated, “It was very important for Miguel and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen. We wanted to find a way to put diversity in the show, but we didn’t want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism.”

House of the Dragon is headed to HBO and HBO Max starting August 21.
