The Flash is one of the few movies that DC will release this year. These movies probably won’t be part of the new DCU that newly appointed Co-Heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are building. I said probably because I don’t know what exactly will this new DCU be like. The firing of actors like Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot suggests a new slate but recent reports have revealed that Warner Bros. is not looking for a complete revamp of the Snyderverse. Whatever it is, I hope they clarify this soon enough. Regardless, The Flash was always going to be important for the DCU as it was supposed to result into the kind of soft reboot that Gunn and Safran are looking for.

This will allow Warner Bros. to put a carpet on their past mistakes (2017’s Justice League) and start anew where they churn out the weed but are still able to use the parts that work. The movie faced a lot of issues for obvious reasons but after Warner Bros. decided to go on with the film, its release date was carved in stone. The trailer for the film is supposed to drop soon as well. And before that, the director of the film has shared a photo of Central City that is arising curiosity among fans.

The Flash: What Does The Central City Photo Suggests?

Anders Muschietti who has helmed both the parts of IT, is directing The Flash as well. He recently shared a photo on his Instagram profile that is gathering some attention from fans. The photo features Muschietti’s hand holding a Flash emblem in what appears to be a set from the film’s production. The post is captioned as, “Central city at midnight #theflashmovie.” However, when the post was first created, it was simply labeled, “I found this. #theflashmovie.”

Check out the photo below:

Muschietti has not made a single Flash related post since,  the first footage from the flick debuted during DC’s 2022 slate trailer. This is when the film was supposed to release last year. This is also his first Flash set photo since he shared the initial wrap up news with fans in October 2021. So, what is happening here. Well, according to our sources there are no reshoots planned for the Flash. This is likely to be a photo taken earlier. Maybe during principal photography or last year’s pick-up shots.

This post can either mean one of two things. One, a surprising reshoot is happening at the last moment or second and the more likely one that Warner Bros. and director Muschietti are hyping up the Flash film as the film is to come out. We all know that the trailer for the film will be unveiled at the Super Bowl LVII, which marks Warner Bros. and Superbowl reunion after 15 years. This looks like a tactical decision as the Super Bowl LVII is taking place on 12th February 2023 which is just 5 days before the release of Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

This could be a deliberate move from the studio to drum up eagerness around the newly formed DCU and the movie as well. This might in turn result in drawing the audiences’ attention aside from the Marvel blockbuster. So, the post shared by Muschietti might as simple as to get fans excited about his upcoming film.

Andres Muschietti (IT) will helm The Flash, and Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) will pen the story. Additionally, it will feature the Bruce Wayne/Batman characters played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, as well as Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, Ian Loh as a young Barry Allen, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in unspecified roles.

The Flash is slated for a theatrical release on June 23, 2023.
