Panchayat Season 2 Review You Do Not Need Big Bangs To Create An Incredible Series

OTT is on the rise in the Indian entertainment market and filmmakers are repeatedly trying to bring forward fresh and amazing content. So far TVF has produced some excellent web series like Pitchers, Kota Factory, and Aspirants. Netflix is struggling to make some groundbreaking fresh content but still offers finely made Little Things and Delhi Crime. Recently, Sony Liv also upped its game with the release of Rocket Boys. Similarly, Amazon has also delivered some fine series including Inside Edge, Paatal Lok, The Family Man, and Panchayat. Talking about Panchayat, its Season 2 is out now and here’s our verdict.

Rating – ★★★★

Panchayat Season 2 – You Do Not Need Big Bangs To Create An Incredible Series

PrimeVideo and TVF’s Panchayat is back with a new season and it is as good as the season 1. The show keeps everything that worked about season 1 and builds upon it. The end product is a light hearted, simplistic and at time tear jerking season which leaves you wanting for more. Although it ended on a really heartbreaking note, it full of hilarious and playful moments just like season 1.

What makes this show so amazing is its simplistic and minimalistic approach where even issues like missing goats, stolen slippers, or delay in commode installation creates a huge ruckus. Yet the series somehow manages to captivate and woo the audience, as it is an incredibly relatable show which makes you crave a simple life. Even though the show began with Jeetu’s character Abhishek feeling trapped in the Phulera village, after watching Panchayat you’ll attracted towards the idea of staying in such a place.

TVF’s Panchayat is a text book example of how you do not need big bangs or futuristic VFX to make an incredible series. It’s USP is its simplicity and we hope they don’t take that away in Season 3 by dwelling too much into dirty politics. Even though it has a simple narrative, the show is quite meaningful and if you analyze well, it tries to present complexities of life in a light hearted way. It picks up themes like self discovery, jealousy, politics, countless social issues, etc., and tries to convey some meaningful messages regarding them. But unlike many shows out there, it doesn’t force its ideologies and leaves its comprehension up to viewers.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Panchayat Season 2 features a well written storyline, powerful performances by the lead cast, and feel-good vibe. The production design is excellent and the cinematography is sometimes so beautiful that it literally transports you into the world of Panchayat. That aside, its music and score also deserves a lot of praise as it syncs with the visuals and adds to the overall environment of the show. Jeetu, Neena Gupta, and Raghubir Yadav deliver stellar and consistent performances throughout the series. Rest of the supporting cast also did a terrific job with special mention to series’ new antagonist Pankaj Jha’s Vidhayak Chandrakishore.

Now even though, Panchayat season 2 had some incredible shots, its cinematography felt a bit inconsistent and so did the editing. But considering the budget of show as well as the overall cinematography, it’s a job well done. Another minor issue was that the finale, although tear-jerking was full of cliches and I fear that the series may go down the dirty politics road. Though, there’s nothing wrong with that but it may take away the simplicity of the series. The last thing I want to see in Panchayat is betrayals, riots, and crime. But apart from a relatively disappointing finale which left a lot of things unattended, the series was an incredible watch.

It is definitely as good as season 1, if not better. This makes Panchayat season 2 a must watch and the cliffhanger ending basically confirms that we will get a Panchayat Season 3. I just hope we don’t have to wait another 2 years for it. So, in short, if you need a break from your tensed life or want to watch something light hearted yet meaningful, then Panchayat Season 2 is for you!
